Why this petition matters

We are calling for Boulia Residents/ Family members to sign a petition to have the employees of  Boulia Shire Council held accountable for A BREACH OF CONFIDENTIALITY towards an Ex-Employee of the Council. 

It was told that a council employee attended the local pub last Saturday night and called the Ex-Employee and his family "FILTHY BLACK C.U.N.T.S." openly in front of other attendees at the pub, this being in regards to housing that was obtained through the Boulia Shire Council for employees. 

This conversation occurred while the council employee was Intoxicated and further began her racist remarks, upsetting the family members that was present at the pub and overhead this conversation. 

The council workers that engage in these type of conversations and think it's ok to discuss the home life of another employee  need to be reprimanded and be held accountable for their actions. Certain conversations are private and should be dealt with in a respectful manner.  Instead they chose to make this public information for the community to hear and make judgement. This behaviour is unethical as well as unprofessional.  

This discrimination must be dealt with and diminished to enable healing to come back within the Boulia residents to live peacefully together. We are calling on Lynn Moore CEO and Rick Britton Mayor to investigate the matters concerning these violations within the Shire Council. 

WE ARE CALLING FOR THE FOLLOWING TO BE ACTIONED;

  • 1) INSTANT DISMISSAL OF THE EMPLOYEES THAT BREACHED CONFIDENTIALITY
  • 2)  A PUBLIC APOLOGY TO THE EX EMPLOYEE AND FAMILY MEMBERS FROM THE BOULIA SHIRE COUNCIL Including a personal letter from Lynn Moore CEO and Rick Britton MAYOR to the person involved. 
  • 3) FOR CULTURAL AWARENESS TRAINING CREATED BY THE PITTA PITTA TRADITIONAL OWNERS & TO BE IMPLEMENTED INTO THE BOULIA SHIRE COUNCIL POLICIES. THIS BEING  DELIVERED BY THE TRADITIONAL OWNERS TO PRESENT & FUTURE EMPLOYEES. 
  • 4) A COMMITMENT FROM THE MAYOR RICK BRITTON AND LYNN MOORE CEO TO ENGAGE IN QUARTLY COMMUNITY MEETINGS WITH THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLES OF BOULIA AND TO HELP DIMINISH THE HISTORY THAT HAS PLAGUED BOULIA FOR DECADES.   BY HEARING AND HELPING TO IMPLEMENT CHANGES THAT AFFECT THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN ALL CAPACITIES THAT INVOLVE OUR WAY OF LIVING ON OUR HOMELANDS FOR THE PRESENT AND FUTURE. 
  • 5) THAT NO REPERCUSSIONS/BACKLASH WILL COME AGAINST ANYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT IS IN SUPPORT OF THIS PETITION, PARTICULARLY THOSE THAT ARE INSTRUMENTAL IN THE ORGANISING OF THIS. 
  • 6) WE ARE ASKING THAT THE TRADITIONAL OWNERS / HISTORICAL ABORIGINAL PEOPLES  BE TREATED WITH THE UTMOST RESPECTS. AND TO BE TREATED AS EQUALS WITHIN OUR HOMELANDS. AND THAT ALL ABORIGINAL PEOPLES  THAT VISIT OUR TOWN BE TREATED ACCORDINGLY. 
  • 7) BOULIA SHIRE COUNCIL & RICK BRITTON MAYOR BEGIN TO STAND UP AGAINST RACISM AND HELP TO BEGIN STOMPING THIS OUT OF BOULIA ONCE AND FOR ALL.
  •  8) FOR OUR REQUESTS TO BE ACTIONED & TAKEN SERIOUSLY. AND FOR OUR REQUEST TO BE DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER NEGOTIATED WITH THE LOCAL TRADITIONAL OWNERS. ALSO FOR ALL CORRESPENCE BE DONE IN WRITING.
