VENICE COALITION TO PRESERVE OUR UNIQUE COMMUNITY CHARACTER (VC-PUCC)
Feb 23, 2015
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
In Saturday's L.A. Times a Notice of Hearing was published re: a proposed Interim Control Ordinance (ICO) to control development in Venice residential zones East of Lincoln. http://classifieds.latimes.com/classifieds/legal-notices-city-of-announcement-7
Though I applaud the fact that Mar Vista/ East Venice are one of the 15 areas to be protected by this new ICO, residents West of Lincoln would also like to ENJOY the benefits of protection by an ICO, specific to the needs of the Venice Coastal Zone. Currently, West of Lincoln has had the highest concentration of demolitions in the City and is in danger of losing it's Unique Character, which is protected by the California Coastal Act as a Special Community and Resource Value.
Council File 14-0656 - http://cityclerk.lacity.org/lacityclerkconnect/index.cfm?fa=ccfi.viewrecord&cfnumber=14-0656
Councilman, Mike Bonin, has the power to assist us, please send a letter, make a call, and/or show up tomorrow.
How you can help, PLS TAKE ACTION NOW:
- Write an email or forward the sample letter below to Councilman Bonin and the PLUM Committee asking for an Interim Control Ordinance (ICO) specific to the needs of the Venice Coastal Zone.
- Show up tomorrow Tuesday February 24, 2015, at 2:30 p.m., Board of Public Works Edward R. Roybal Hearing Room, Room 350, 200 North Spring Street, Los Angeles to the Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee.
- Support Agenda item (2) and go on record that West of Lincoln needs an immediate ICO to preserve the Venice Coastal Zone.
Call the Council Office 213 473-7011 and demand an Interim Control Ordinance that will protect Venice West of Lincoln, the Coastal Zone.

Dear Councilman Bonin and PLUM Committee,
RE: Council File 14-0656
Although I support Council Motion 14-0656 to include East of Lincoln as one of the neighborhoods which will be protected from over development, I urge you to immediately establish an Interim Control Ordinance WEST of Lincoln to:
a. limit excessive floor area to lot size ratio, height and setbacks;
b. be compatible with the established scale and character of the existing neighborhood;
c. enforce Govt. Code 65590-65590.1 Mello Act.
In 2014 the Venice Coastal Zone, residents WEST of Lincoln have seen the greatest proliferation of development that is incompatible with the existing neighborhood, compared to the rest of Los Angeles.
Venice, WEST of Lincoln, has sustained the worst negative impact from demolitions, loss of affordable housing, and lack of compliance with the Venice Coastal Zone Specific Plan and the California Coastal Act. The substantial cumulative adverse impact and the threat this poses to a Certified Local Coastal Program warrants an immediate Interim Control Ordinance.
Please establish an immediate Interim Control Ordinance Specific to Venice WEST of Lincoln.
Sincerely,
cc:
councilmember Jose Huizar, Councilmember Gilbert A. Cedillo and Council Member Mitchell Englander:
