VENICE COALITION TO PRESERVE OUR UNIQUE COMMUNITY CHARACTER (VC-PUCC)
Feb 7, 2015
A BIG THANK YOU to Ivonne Guzman and... all of you that participated in the West Area Planning Hearing concerning 758 Sunset Ave as well as to those that could not attend but sent letters or good vibrations our way.
The Commissioners did not agree with the Zoning Administrators Adjustments as proposed for the project which meant in that respect they supported the appeal submitted by the Guzman Family.
The Commissioners were unable to identify any issues pertaining to the other aspects under review based on the current planning process and the Commissions charter.
The net impact is that the project is delayed for the time being.
From my perspective, the Venice community message was about feeling... Do you feel our struggle City of LA employees? Do you feel our loss? Do you feel our concern for other members of our community? Do you feel our sincerity in standing for a right relationship with our neighbors and nature? Do you feel us City employees? Nope. Not yet.
The Commissioners which are not employees but are volunteers were able to receive the message from the people of Venice and still do their job.
To no surprise the builders/the developers/the architects certainly don't feel the people of Venice. The financiers of many of these projects do not feel the people of Venice either. Neither of these groups considers the true cost impact to nature in the design. Just building for building and profit sake using geometric formula's without consideration of the landscape, the surroundings, and inhabitants, especially the most important part of the eco-system which is nature is not only negligent but downright foolish.
Yet I don't think they are bad people per se. Some are lost at this present time without a doubt. Some are very ego based indeed. Most if not all of those individuals are not living their truth from their heart center. What is your soul's mission? To destroy nature? To change for the sake of change? To show how big you can build a design? To make a profit regardless of others just for profit sake? To act like a ignorant, spoiled brat that has to get your way all the time? Hmmm....
Yesterday's public participation wasn't just about facts, which is really about perspective. Yesterday actually about feelings. Everyone that spoke from the public contributed in some fashion. What level they expressed desire or passion for their cause was quite apparent to me based on their choice of words, body language, and their openness or lack therefore to engage with those they perceived as opponents.
The beauty of witnessing people participating in process is that the diversity within the group is their strength. Most of the time people just need someone to hold the space so that the parts of the whole can interact and learn together. Some people require scripts, or talking points, while others prefer to speak from their heart or intuition yet some prefer not to speak and just be an artful presence. No one way is better than the other quite frankly - that's just individual preference. Way to go people. It was nice to see so many people being h-u-m-a-n. Love you.
