So many lives have been lost on the A1. For years on end, there have been calls for a dual carriageway between Gaborone and Francistown.

There have also been many road accidents along the AI national artery. It is accepted that road traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death in Botswana.
The government's take on such calls had always been premised on economic considerations rather than safety.

The government has in the past argued that the size of traffic using the road does not justify the cost of constructing a dual carriageway.

I believe that construction of the A1 dual carriageway will save a lot of lives.
