The Issue

Community Call to Action: Gun Safety in Our Schools As parents, guardians, and community members, we all want the same thing: to know our children are safe when they walk into school each morning. Recently, I reached out to East High School Leadership with concerns about gun safety and emergency preparedness after a student was arrested for bringing a gun into the school, but I did not receive a response. This issue is too important to ignore. Our district previously began important conversations about adopting new technology for weapons detection, but those talks were abandoned—even after two tragic shootings at East High School in 2023. It’s time to revive those discussions and push for meaningful solutions. I am inviting fellow parents and community members to come together to: -Revisit district plans for modern safety technology such as metal detection systems.
-Share ideas for stronger safety measures.
-Call on the school and district to host a public forum on gun safety and emergency procedures.
