George Washington University Must Take Antisemitism Seriously

George Washington University Must Take Antisemitism Seriously

The Issue

The Jewish community needs your support as antisemitism continues to surge at George Washington University. Over the past two weeks, StandWithUs, an organization dedicated to standing with Israel and combating antisemitism, filed a Title VI complaint with the U.S. Department of Education against the university following ongoing harassment and escalating incidents of blatant discrimination against Jewish students.

This lawsuit was filed on behalf of Jewish students who were treated differently than other classmates in a Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity course. During the class, students were asked to share their ethnic identities. Jewish students, however, were ostracized when they demonstrated pride in their ethnicity. When reporting this incident to the school, these students were met with immense backlash by the professor, who slandered the students as being racist toward her instead.

Now, the hate group Palestine Legal and the university’s student-run paper, The Hatchet, have released an absurd article claiming that George Washington officials have “cleared” the antisemitic campus organization, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), from disciplinary charges after members of the group vandalized the campus’s Hillel building to protest an event with Doron Tenne, a former IDF intelligence officer who was hosted by GW for Israel and GW Mishelanu, an organization dedicated to Israeli-American heritage.

As Jew hatred continues to skyrocket on college campuses across America, George Washington University must firmly stand against bigotry targeting the Jewish community in all of its forms. Urge George Washington University’s administration to denounce discrimination toward Jewish students while ensuring those who engage in attacks against the Jewish community are met with swift disciplinary action.
