The Issue

Walking along Elkesley’s main road each day, I am constantly reminded of the worsening state of our pavements. Broken tarmac and dangerously uneven surfaces greet us, turning a simple stroll into a risk-laden venture. This is not just a matter of convenience—it's a glaring safety hazard.

On two occasions already, pedestrians have suffered falls on these treacherous paths. Frustratingly, these are not isolated incidents but rather warnings of what is to come if action is not taken. With each passing day, the likelihood of someone being seriously injured increases, and we cannot afford to wait until it is too late.

Temporary patching attempts by Nottinghamshire County Council would not be sufficient. The patches would not hold, and before long, the pavements return to their hazardous state. Band-aid solutions cannot resolve deep-rooted problems. That's why we are calling for a full resurfacing of Elkesley's pavements, ensuring long-lasting safety for everyone who walks these paths.

Why should we settle for unsafe pathways when a comprehensive solution is within reach? Our community deserves better. We deserve to walk without fear of injury. Efficient and effective pavements are a fundamental part of a safe and accessible environment.

By signing this petition, we urge Nottinghamshire County Council to prioritise the complete resurfacing of Elkesley’s pavements. Let us send a strong message that the safety of our community is non-negotiable and demands immediate action. Join us in making Elkesley a safer place for all residents and visitors.

Please sign to demand safe pavements for Elkesley. Your support can help us create the change we urgently need.
