The Issue

Kenwyn Road in Truro is more than just a thoroughfare; it's a lifeline for parents, children, and local residents who traverse it daily. Unfortunately, this important route has become a safety concern, and we believe immediate action is necessary to protect our community. We urge Cornwall Council to review and reduce the speed limit to 20mph along Kenwyn Road.

The road is frequented by families, school children, and pedestrians of all ages. However, the current speed limit is proving too high. Reports from the community highlight not just concerns, but concrete issues such as near misses, excessive vehicle speed, and challenges in crossing safely. This is not just an inconvenience; it's a crisis that jeopardises the well-being of our residents.

Statistics from road safety studies indicate that reducing speed limits to 20mph effectively decreases the likelihood and severity of road accidents. A pedestrian hit at 30mph is five times more likely to be killed than at 20mph. Lower speed limits allow drivers more reaction time and significantly increase the chances of survival for pedestrians in the event of a collision.

We understand that changing speed limits requires adjustments by drivers yet the safety and protection of our community must remain the top priority. A collaborative approach from our community could facilitate a smooth transition to safer roads.

Residents of Kenwyn Community have repeatedly voiced their concerns, and it’s time their voices are heard. We call upon Cornwall Council to take decisive action and implement this change .

Sign this petition to help ensure Kenwyn Road becomes a safer place for everyone who walks, drives, or cycles through it. Your signature matters—it represents a commitment to improving road safety and protecting lives in our beloved community.
