Call on Canada to Open Borders for Lebanese Refugees

The Issue

طالبوا كندا بفتح الحدود للاجئين اللبنانيين

Who is impacted?
Lebanese citizens are facing an escalating crisis as war and conflict in the Middle East intensify. The impact of this regional turmoil is devastating — with over a third of the population caught in the crossfire of political instability, economic collapse, and a growing humanitarian disaster. Families are being displaced from their homes, their lives uprooted by violence and insecurity—many struggle to survive without access to food, clean water, or medical care. With the country already hosting a massive population of refugees, the resources in Lebanon are stretched thin, leaving its citizens with nowhere to turn for safety or stability.

What is at stake?
If Canada does not act, more lives will be lost as the situation in Lebanon continues to worsen. Citizens who are fleeing war and violence need a safe place to rebuild their lives. The longer they remain in a volatile region, the more their lives are in danger, with the risk of losing homes, family members, and any chance for a secure future. By opening our borders, Canada can provide urgent refuge to those affected by the conflict. This action would save lives and uphold Canada's international humanitarian commitment. However, we risk turning our backs on those most in need if no action is taken.

Why is now the time to act?
The war and conflict in the Middle East are escalating rapidly, with no signs of resolution in sight. The need for immediate international intervention has never been more apparent as the crisis deepens. Canada has a proud history of providing refuge during times of war and unrest and now is the time to extend that compassion to the people of Lebanon. We must act swiftly to open our borders and offer sanctuary to those fleeing violence and persecution. Every moment we delay puts more lives at risk. The time for action is now — we can make a real difference for the citizens of Lebanon today.

Lebanese Heritage and Contributions in Canada
The Lebanese community in Canada dates back to the 1800s when the first waves of Lebanese immigrants arrived in Canada. Over time, Lebanese Canadians have become an integral part of Canada's multiculturalism, contributing significantly to the country’s social, economic, and cultural development. From business leaders to public servants, educators, and artists, Lebanese Canadians have contributed substantially to their adopted country while maintaining deep ties to their heritage. The Lebanese community, which now numbers in the hundreds of thousands, has helped shape Canada's identity as a welcoming and diverse nation, fostering connections between the two countries.
