Call on Boston to Become a Safe Haven for Trans Youth

Call on Boston to Become a Safe Haven for Trans Youth
The Issue
Across the country, transgender teens are under attack. After the Supreme Court upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care, families are being forced to flee their home states in order to protect their children’s health and lives. While Massachusetts continues to offer access to care, Boston has not yet made an official commitment to trans youth and the families seeking refuge here.
That’s why we’re urging Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston City Council to take the lead and formally declare Boston a Safe Haven for Trans Youth—a city where care is protected, families are welcomed, and no one is punished for seeking the medical support they need.
Boston has a long legacy of leading on justice, healthcare, and civil rights. This is the moment to build on that legacy. A formal safe haven declaration would not only provide real protections—it would send a message of hope to trans youth everywhere that they are seen, valued, and safe in our city.
This is not about politics. It’s about saving lives. Trans teens already face increased risk of depression, suicide, and violence. Denying them care only adds to that danger. We need Boston to act—boldly and publicly.
Sign this petition to demand Boston declare itself a safe haven for trans youth. Let’s ensure that families fleeing hateful laws have a city ready to welcome them with open arms.
