The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Wellington Place and the surrounding area in Willenhall, are calling on Walsall Council to urgently address the growing traffic issues in our neighbourhood.

Our community is increasingly affected by:

  • Large HGVs using the road, causing significant damage to parked vehicles and property.
  • Speeding vehicles, which pose a daily risk to the safety of pedestrians, children, and other road users.
  • Obstruction of emergency services, who have reportedly struggled to access properties in a timely manner due to the volume and type of traffic using this residential street.

These issues are not only impacting quality of life but are also posing serious safety risks to residents. Despite being a residential area, Wellington Place is being used as a through-route by heavy goods vehicles and fast-moving traffic, which the road was not designed to accommodate.

We request that Walsall Council:

  • Introduce a weight restriction to prevent HGVs and other large commercial vehicles from using Wellington Place.
  • Implement traffic calming measures, including speed humps, to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety.
  • Introduce a pedestrian crossing to allow school children and residents to cross safely, given the loss of crossing warden
  • Review access for emergency services to ensure that emergency vehicles can reach residents without delay.

Our community is committed to working with the Council to find a solution, but action must be taken urgently before a serious incident occurs.

We urge Walsall Council to treat this matter as a priority and engage with local residents to develop and implement effective traffic management measures.
