Call for the Senate to Rename the Thurmond Room to the Booker Room

Call for the Senate to Rename the Thurmond Room to the Booker Room
The Issue
To: U.S. Senate
The United States Senate and the US Capitol should reflect the values that the Constitution and the people of the United States hold. However, the Strom Thurmond Room in the Capitol stands in opposition to these ideals and values.
Senator Strom Thurmond is remembered for his lengthy political career, for his staunch opposition to civil rights, and for his infamous record-setting filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
In contrast, Senator Cory Booker embodies the principles of equality, justice, and unity. As a dedicated public servant, Booker has worked tirelessly to advance civil rights and policies that uplift all Americans. His leadership reflects the very values and principles that the United States was founded on and that the Constitution promises the American people. Cory will be remembered for his record-breaking filibuster for the rights of the American people against tyranny in 2025.
Renaming the Strom Thurmond room to honor Senator Booker is not about erasing history. It is about ensuring that spaces within our government buildings represent the values we are fighting to uphold today. It is a meaningful step toward aligning our institutions with the principles of this country, the Constitution, and the people of the United States.
We, the people, call on the Senate to rename the Strom Thurmond Room the Cory Booker Room in recognition of the leadership, integrity, and vision he brings to the Senate and the way he fights for the American people.
Sign this petition and stand for a Senate that reflects our shared values.
