Call for the Resignation of Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark

The Issue

Brett Yormark has failed to lead the Big 12 with the strength and unity the conference needs, especially when it matters most. Two decisions in particular have hurt the league and its members:

1.  He offered almost no public support for BYU, Utah, or the Big 12 as a whole in the weeks leading up to the College Football Playoff selection show. When BYU finished the regular season 11-2 with one of the toughest schedules in the country, Yormark stayed quiet instead of fighting for the Cougars and the conference. He never challenged the narrative that the Big 12 was weaker than the SEC or ACC, and he accepted the committee’s decisions without pushing back. That silence helped leave BYU out of the playoff and damaged the reputation of the entire conference.

2.  He chose Utah athletic director Mark Harlan to represent the Big 12 on the College Football Playoff selection committee. This was a terrible decision. Harlan has repeatedly criticized the Big 12 in public, most notably after the 2024 Utah-BYU game when he attacked the league’s officials and questioned the conference’s integrity—comments that earned him a $40,000 fine and a public reprimand from the Big 12 itself. Putting someone who has been openly hostile toward the conference in a position to speak for it is a clear conflict of interest and shows incredibly poor judgment.

The Big 12 deserves a commissioner who will stand up loudly for every school—new members and old—and who will make decisions that put the conference first. Brett Yormark has not done that. It’s time for him to step down.

Sign this petition to demand Brett Yormark’s resignation and to call for new leadership that will actually fight for the Big 12.
