Call for the Removal of the Blount County Director of schools David Murrell
The Issue
We cannot stand silent while the safety of our children hangs in the balance. For nearly 20 years, the Director of Blount County Schools has turned a blind eye to the ongoing abuse perpetrated by a staff member that is now making local news. Reports dating back as early as 2005 highlight the concerning pattern of negligence and enablement of such intolerable behavior within the walls of our schools.
This isn't even the extent of his irresponsibility. Multiple cases of staff misconduct against other educators have surfaced throughout his tenure, during which he has held multiple leadership titles, each case seemingly ignored by the Director.
There have been numerous reports of unsafe conditions and practices at a number of schools. Yet, our children trudge through these dangerous environments daily, their safety a secondary concern to the Director who continues to neglect his responsibilities. Each day we allow him to stay in his position, we risk the wellbeing of our children and the sanctity of Blount County Schools.
The time to act is now. We must rid our schools of this neglectful figure and begin repairing the years of damage that have been done. Some have reported that a lot of reports are not being documented by the school system and are being swept under the rug. The principal of the school she is speaking about was moved to 2 other elementary schools as vice principal. Will she be the next Joe Dalton? Will we see another newspaper article in 10 or more years detailing all this person's misconduct and the lack of action by BCS?
