Call for the immediate release of Saadia Mosbah and the end of the Defamation Campaign against racial justice advocates

Saadia Mosbah and members of the (M'nmety) organization have been under attack since 2022. As part of an ongoing smear campaign organized by anti-black and anti-immigrant groups that are perpetuating racist discourses around what they call “great replacement theory,”. 

This rhetoric was echoed by the president and political figures back in March 2023, this movement has resulted in widespread hate campaigns and attacks against African immigrants and black Tunisians. Saadia Mosbah is among the main targets of this racist movement due to her activism and constant historical advocacy against racism. 

The smear campaign utilized white supremacist discourse, accusing them of “Afrocentrism” corruption and receiving foreign funds to "facilitate the settlement of black African migrants to change Tunisia's demographic makeup.". Their personal information, including the names of her family members, was shared on social media, and their safety was put at risk. As a result, the smear campaign has become widespread, with members of the public feeding into propaganda and disinformation. 

On May 6th, 2024, law enforcement agents stormed Saadia’s house, where they searched her home, and then led her alongside Zied Rouine, M'nemty's project manager, to the organization's headquarters to perform another search. Saadia and Zied were interrogated until early in the morning. Zied was released, and Saadia remains detained pending further investigation.

We, the undersigned, express our deepest concern and condemnation regarding the arbitrary arrest and detention of Saaida Mosbah, a prominent human rights advocate for racial justice in Tunisia. Her unjust imprisonment is based on false accusations, and we believe it is the result of a deliberate campaign of defamation and lies aimed at silencing her voice and undermining her tireless efforts for social justice.

Our Concerns:

1. Arbitrary Arrest and False Accusations: Saadia Mosbah’s arrest was conducted based on unfounded allegations, which appear to be an attempt to suppress her activism.
2. Defamation Campaign: The smear campaign against her and others has jeopardized the safety and freedom of all human rights defenders in Tunisia.
3. Violation of Human Rights Principles, National Law, and International Conventions: The Tunisian government's actions contradict the international conventions they have signed, particularly those related to protecting human rights defenders and eliminating racial discrimination.
4. The amplification and rise of racist and fascist voices that threaten the safety and security of Black persons in Tunisia.

We demand:

1. Immediate Release: We call for the immediate and unconditional release of Saadia Mosbah.
2. Adherence to National and International Law: Tunisia must comply with international conventions, particularly the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
3. End of hate campaigns: The government must condemn and prevent campaigns aimed at black Tunisians and African immigrants.

Let us stand in solidarity with Saadia Mosbah and all who fight for equity, freedom, and justice.

نداء للإفراج الفوري عن سعدية مصباح ووقف حملة التشويه ضد المدافعين/ات عن العدالة الإجتماعية في تونس  

منذ عام 2022، تعرضت سعدية مصباح وأعضاء منظمة "منامتي" لهجوم مستمر كجزء من حملة تشويه نظمتها جماعات معادية للسود والمهاجرين والتي تعمل على نشر خطابات عنصرية حول ما يسمونه "نظرية الاستبدال العظيم", وقد تردد صدى هذه الخطابات من قبل الرئيس وشخصيات سياسية في مارس 2023، مما أدى إلى حملات كراهية وهجمات واسعة النطاق ضد المهاجرين الأفارقة والتونسيين السود. كانت سعدية مصباح من أول المستهدفين في هذه الحركة العنصرية بسبب نشاطتها وكفاحها التاريخي المستمر ضد العنصرية.

استخدمت حملة التشويه خطابات عنصرية واتهمت سعدية بـ "المركزية الأفريقية" والفساد وتلقي تمويل من مؤسسات أجنبية لـ "تسهيل استقرار المهاجرين الأفارقة واللاجئين لتغيير التكوين السكاني في تونس". كما قامت جهات بنشر معلوماتهم الشخصية، بما في ذلك أسماء أفراد من عائلتها، على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، مما يعرضهم للخطر.

في السادس من مايو 2024، اقتحمت قوات من الشرطة منزل سعدية، وقاموا بتفتيش منزلها، ثم قادوها بالإضافة زياد روين، مدير المشاريع في "منظمة منامتي"، إلى مقر المنظمة لإجراء تفتيش آخر. وبعدها تم استجواب سعدية وزياد حتى ساعات الصباح الأولى. تم إطلاق سراح زياد، وسعدية ما زالت محتجزة على ذمة التحقيق.

نحن، الموقعون و الموقعات  أدناه، نعبر عن قلقنا العميق وإدانتنا للاعتقال التعسفي واحتجاز سعدية مصباح، الناشطة في مجال حقوق الإنسان والدفاع عن العدالة الاجتماعية في تونس. إن اعتقالها غير العادل مبني على اتهامات كاذبة، ونعتقد أنه نتيجة لحملة متعمدة من التشويه والأكاذيب تهدف إلى إسكاتها وتقويض جهودها الدؤوبة من أجل العدالة الاجتماعية.

مخاوفنا

1.   الاعتقال التعسفي والاتهامات الكاذبة: اعتقال سعدية مصباح تم بناءً على اتهامات لا أساس لها من الصحة، ويبدو أنها محاولة لقمع نشاطها.

2.   حملة التشويه: أثرت حملة التشويه ضد سعديه وآخرين على سلامة وحرية جميع المدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان في تونس.

3.   انتهاك مبادئ حقوق الإنسان والقوانين الوطنية والمعاهدات الدولية: تتناقض أفعال الحكومة التونسية مع المعاهدات الدولية التي وقعتها، خاصة تلك المتعلقة بحماية المدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان والقضاء على العنصرية.

4.   توسع وأنتشار الخطابات والأصوات العنصرية والفاشية التي تهدد سلامة وأمان الأشخاص السود في تونس.

نحن نطالب:

1.   الإفراج الفوري: نطالب بالإفراج الفوري وغير المشروط عن سعدية مصباح.

2.   الالتزام بالقوانين الوطنية والدولية: يجب على تونس الامتثال للمعاهدات الدولية، بخاصة العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق المدنية والسياسية (ICCPR) واتفاقية القضاء على جميع أشكال التمييز العنصري (ICERD).

3.   وقف حملات الكراهية: يجب على الحكومة أن تدين وتمنع الحملات التي تستهدف التونسيين السود والمهاجرين الأفارقة.

4.   محاسبة المشاركين في حملات الكراهية: نطالب بإجراء تحقيق وفرض عقوبات مناسبة على جميع الأفراد والمنظمات التي ساهمت في حملات التشويه ضد سعدية مصباح.
