Call for the End of Time Adds
In California's Division of Juvenile Justice, staff can delay youths' parole hearing dates. This practice, known as "time adds" is abusive, wasteful, and ineffective. Time Adds are also a major reason that California youth serve the longest sentences in the country, at three years. On average, over one-third of that time is due to time adds, which hurt families who want to know when their loved one will return.
But Republicans are taking their cues from the prison guards' union, and they're demanding to keep this abusive practice in place. We need you to call on Democratic leadership today to ask them to stand up to Republicans and stand for families and youth.
Watch (and share!) our video about the impact of time adds. Then call the Democratic leadership in Sacramento -- Senator Steinberg and Assemblymember John Perez -- and tell them to end Time Adds immediately!
