Jimmy Lai will not appeal 20-year sentence after national security trial

It is announced today, 06-03-2026, that Jimmy Lai Chee-Ying will not appeal for his 20-year sentence after the national security trial. It is widely believed that an appeal would be practically pointless under Hong Kong draconian law.

Andrew Fung Wai-Kwong, another convict in the Jimmy Lai case who had been given a 10 year sentence, however, will be appealing.
