The Issue

Our Uncle Dale "DC" Stewart tragically lost his life in Buffalo due to a hit and run involving a stolen vehicle. This incredibly devastating event is not isolated. Many families like ours have suffered similar losses in our city, where innocent lives are endangered by reckless drivers committing grand theft auto, hit and runs, and even vehicular manslaughter.

Buffalo streets have become increasingly perilous due to such criminal acts, with stolen cars running red lights and stop signs at alarming rates. These reckless actions not only put lives at risk but also lead to a surge in vehicle accidents. Consequently, insurance premiums have skyrocketed, making it practically unaffordable for many residents.

We urgently call on Congress and local officials to enact stricter laws and implement effective deterrents for such vehicular crimes. This may include harsher penalties for those found guilty of these offenses and increased resources for law enforcement to effectively pursue and prosecute offenders. Stronger laws can deter would-be criminals by making the consequences of such actions severe and certain.

Moreover, we propose the introduction of community awareness programs focusing on traffic safety and the legal repercussions of these crimes. Encouraging a community-led effort to identify and report suspicious activities can vastly improve the safety conditions in our neighborhoods.

Statistics support our cause: according to [a reputable source], cities that have implemented stricter vehicular crime laws and established community watch programs have seen a decline in related incidents. Buffalo, like others, can benefit tremendously from similar initiatives.

Our streets should be safe for all—drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. We believe these measures can significantly improve the safety of Buffalo's roadways and reduce the incidence of vehicular crimes.

We sincerely thank our elected officials in advance for their ongoing efforts and urge them to prioritize this critical issue. By signing this petition, you help amplify our voices and push for the changes needed to make our city safer.

Please stand with us in advocating for a safer Buffalo by adding your signature today. Together, we can effect real change.
