Malaysia has descended into a state of political turmoil since the 23rd of February, as it was announced that 11 MPs from PKR and 36 MPs from Bersatu decided to leave Pakatan Harapan (the ruling government) and join forces with the opposition parties to form a new government. As a result, Pakatan Harapan lost its majority in the parliament, followed by the resignation of the 7th prime minister Mahathir Mohamed. The next 5 days passed with uncertainty of who should be the new prime minister, as all MPs were interviewed by the Agong (king) to affirm their support for their prime minister candidate of choice. On the 29th of February, it was announced that Muhyiddin Yassin will be the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia, as he was nominated by all MPs from UMNO, PAS and Bersatu, which includes the 11 MPs who defected from PKR, effectively ending the rule of Pakatan Harapan.

In 2018, majority of Malaysias voted for Pakatan Harapan to be the government, rejecting UMNO and PAS. We rejected UMNO because we did not want our beloved country to be ruled by kleptocrats, theives and corrupt politicians who plunder our country's resources for their own benefits. As of now, these politicians are likely to be back in power until the next general election in 3 years time. 

We as Malaysians, should have a say in this political turmoil and I demand that a snap election be called, as this formation of a backdoor government goes against the interest of all Malaysians and is a betrayal of trust to everyone who voted in GE14. Signing this petition asserts your support for a snap election. Calling for a snap election allows Malaysians to choose who should be our next prime minister, in line with a true democracy. 

Dear Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin, if you are a man with dignity and love for our country, please consider the interest of the rakyat and do the responsible thing by calling for a snap election, as you have been elected without us having a say in the decision making process. I am directing this petition to you because I am a patriotic Malaysian who wants the best for my beloved country. Our economy is bleeding as a result of this crisis, and economic recovery can be achieved with political stability through a fair election.
