I apologize if this image is upsetting to some, but I’m sharing it because I feel it’s important to show the reality of what’s happening on this stretch of road.
I wanted to share an important update about the ongoing safety concerns on Highway 16 near Jail Hill. I just noticed another deer was hit on the same unlit and unsigned bend where several others have been struck recently. This likely happened between 3 PM and 5 PM today, as it wasn’t there when I drove into town but was on the side of the road when I returned.
With rutting season still ongoing, deer are more active and unpredictable, making this stretch of road especially dangerous for both drivers and wildlife.
This incident highlights the urgent need for safety improvements in this area, including better lighting and wildlife warning signs. These changes will help protect both people and animals from future accidents.
The changes we’re advocating for - better lighting, wildlife warning signs, and clearer visibility - are critical because drivers can’t always see animals crossing until it’s too late, especially on unlit, unsigned bends like this one. These safety measures would help drivers respond in time and reduce the risk of accidents for both people and animals.
If you haven’t already, please consider signing and sharing the petition to help push for these necessary changes.
Together, we can work to make this stretch of Highway 16 safer for everyone. Thank you for your continued support!
