I’m pleased to share that we’ve reached an important milestone: over 500 signatures on our petition! Thank you all for your incredible support - your voices are making a difference.
I also received my first official reply from one of the organizations I contacted: Yellowhead Road & Bridge (YRB). For those who may not know, YRB is responsible for highway maintenance in our area, including the jail hill stretch of Highway 16.
In their response, YRB acknowledged the safety concerns we’ve raised and confirmed they will engage with the Ministry of Transportation to explore potential solutions. Here’s a summary of their key points:
• Lighting Improvements: Lighting requests, including ours, require extended review and consultation by the Ministry of Transportation.
• Wildlife Collisions: YRB tracks and reports all wildlife collisions monthly to the Ministry. This data helps identify high-risk areas where signage could be added.
• Signage Approvals: YRB has successfully advocated for wildlife signage in the past, but installations require Ministry approval.
This is an encouraging step forward, but there’s more work to be done. Let’s keep the momentum going by sharing the petition and encouraging others to sign. Every signature brings us closer to making the ‘Jail Hill’ stretch of Highway 16 safer for everyone.
Thank you again for your continued support!
