The Issue

To: MEC  of Education, North West Province

We, the undersigned concerned citizens, parents, learners, SGB members , educators and concerned community members, call upon the North West MEC for Education, Dr Desbo Mohono, to prioritise the safety of educators and learners by convening a Provincial School Safety Imbizo.

Our schools should be places of learning and hope, not environments where educators and learners fear violence, bullying, dangerous weapons, drugs and intimidation. The discovery of weapons and substances during school searches, together with incidents of violence affecting educators and learners, demonstrates that school safety requires consistent and preventative action.

We cannot wait for another tragedy before we act. School safety must be an everyday priority.

WE CALL UPON THE DEPARTMENT TO:

1.Convene a Provincial School Safety Imbizo involving educators, learners, parents, SGBs, teacher unions, SAPS and relevant stakeholders.

2.Identify and assess high-risk schools and strengthen interventions against violence, weapons, drugs and bullying.

3.Strengthen School Safety Committees and SAPS partnerships for effective prevention and response.

4.Establish safe reporting mechanisms for educators and learners facing threats, violence or intimidation.

5.Develop a measurable North West Provincial School Safety Action Plan with clear responsibilities and accountability.

This petition is a call for leadership, prevention and collective action.

Educators deserve to teach in safe enviroment . Learners deserve to learn in safe enviroment . Parents deserve to send their children to school with confidence  knowing that they will return home safely .

We call upon 1,000 people to add their voices to this cause. Upon reaching 1,000 signatures, this petition will be formally presented to the MEC for Education.
