Call For Resignation of Editor Dave Rogers/Newburyport Daily News for Parent Group Slander
The Issue
Dave Rogers is the Editor for the Daily News of Newburyport, a local newspaper owned by North of Boston Media Group. Rogers has been continuously attacking a fellow Massachusetts parent group Citizens For Responsible Education (CRE) because they have been exercising their First Amendment right to Free Speech and speaking up against the dissemination of sexually-explicit materials to our children in public schools, which is a topic he shares a different viewpoint on.
On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, his latest attack hit an astonishing all-time low when he published an editorial maliciously inferring that the mass shooting that occurred at Club Q in Colorado Springs could happen here in Newburyport as a result of what he falsely termed “anti-queer rhetoric” coming from CRE and other parents concerned with what their children are being taught in the local public schools. Rogers also allowed the publication of ANOTHER Letter to The Editor that specifically called out a group member by name who stated CRE and other parent groups are responsible for this tragedy. Please note that Dave Rogers conveniently forgot to mention that the suspect in the shootings refers to himself as "non-binary" and goes by "they/them" pronouns, so the fact that he recklessly associated CRE as contributing to this tragedy is not only absurd and poor journalism but a slanderous attempt to silence the members of this group. Parents For Common Sense Education on behalf of Citizens for Responsible Education is requesting Dave Rogers publish a retraction of both his Editorial and Letter to the Editor prior to resigning his post as the Editor of the Daily News of Newburyport.
