In 2016, we began raising awareness about breast density and flagged the need for women to understand dense breasts.  Since then, in the UK, it is estimated in excess of 30,000 cancers have been left undetected in dense breasts. 

Following a clear mammogram, some women with dense breasts, may have had their cancers diagnosed earlier, if they had been offered further screening, eg, ultrasound. They may have needed less treatment, such as a lumpectomy rather than a mastectomy and harsh treatments like chemo.  Sadly, some cases are incurable.
