We demand an administrator that puts the school and our keiki first. 

We, the undersigned parents, teachers, community members, and concerned citizens, are calling for immediate action from the Hawaiʻi Department of Education and the Windward District to address the ongoing leadership crisis at Sunset Beach Elementary School.

Since Principal Eliza Elkington’s appointment, our school has experienced a sharp decline in teacher morale, staff retention, and overall school culture. Numerous highly respected teachers have left or are planning to leave due to a hostile work environment. Parents have pulled their children from the school, and many more have expressed concerns about the safety and well-being of their keiki under the current administration.

Efforts to raise these concerns with the Windward District have been met with inaction, leaving our community no choice but to speak out publicly.

We demand:
    •    The appointment of a leader who values collaboration, respects staff and families, and supports a healthy, thriving learning environment
    •    A full investigation into staff treatment, enrollment practices, and administrative decisions made during Principal Elkington’s tenure

Our children deserve better. Our teachers deserve better. Our community deserves better.
