To the Legislative Assembly of Alberta,

We, the undersigned residents of Alberta, hereby petition for the resignation of Marlin Schmidt, the NDP representative for Edmonton Gold-Bar, on the grounds of his unfitness to lead.

Marlin Schmidt's conduct towards fellow legislators is concerning and unacceptable. Specifically, his actions towards Jacky Lovely, the MLA for Camrose, demonstrate a pattern of behavior that is unbecoming of a public official. Schmidt deliberately sought out Ms. Lovely to berate and intimidate her, stating that "Camrose residents have no right to weigh in on Edmonton’s affairs." When Ms. Lovely expressed fear and attempted to leave, Schmidt mocked and followed her. This incident is not isolated; Schmidt has a history of aggressive behavior towards colleagues, including making menacing gestures and yelling at other Alberta UCP MLAs.

Premier Ms. Smith herself acknowledged the seriousness of Schmidt's behavior, stating that Ms. Lovely was "afraid to go back to a committee meeting," and adding, "And it’s not just her."

Schmidt's actions reflect poorly on public officials and the NDP party. Allowing such misconduct to go unchecked undermines the democratic process and harms the interests of all Albertans. By signing this petition, we express our agreement that Schmidt's resignation is necessary and in the best interest of the constituents of Gold-Bar and all Albertans.

We request that the Legislative Assembly of Alberta takes this matter seriously and considers our petition in accordance with the rules and procedures governing appeals.
