Call for Ken Sim to step down as Vancouver's mayor

The Issue

In October, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim breached the Criminal Code of Canada by engaging in defamatory actions against opposing city counselors. As a Vancouver resident who deeply values honesty and integrity in our public offices, I am personally appalled by these actions. Mayor Sim intentionally and publicly propagated falsehoods to defame other counselors who stand as his rivals in the forthcoming elections. Disturbingly, his statements were revealed as lies told before the supposed source even made any claims, thus exposing them as a willful act of deception.

These actions are not just unethical; they are a direct violation of Canadian law. According to Section 298 of the Criminal Code, defamation consists of false statements made to harm another's reputation. Ken Sim's lies damage our trust in the capacity of our leaders to govern fairly and responsibly. Such conduct is unbecoming of a public official, and it sets a dangerous precedent for political discourse in our city.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Mayor Sim has chosen to ignore the calls and concerns of his constituents. His consistent denial of accountability and repeated disregard for ethical governance erodes public trust in the mayor's office. As citizens of Vancouver, we deserve leaders who listen, act transparently, and adhere to the law, representing all of our interests fairly.

It is imperative for the health and integrity of our democratic process that Mayor Ken Sim resigns from his position. Resignation would allow for leadership that genuinely aligns with Vancouver’s values of truth, accountability, and transparency.

By signing this petition, you support the call for Mayor Ken Sim to step down and advocate for leaders who respect both the law and their constituents. Together, we can strive for a more ethical and responsible governance for Vancouver.
