Newsom recently launched a website purportedly aimed at combating "misinformation" about the state's wildfire response. However, this site prominently features a donation button on the top right of the page leading to ActBlue—a Democratic Party fundraising platform.
2. Donations Filtered Through Partisan Channels:
While Newsom's team claims the donations will support firefighters and impacted communities, the ActBlue platform typically retains a 3.95% processing fee. Even if waived in this instance, using a partisan platform for such a critical cause raises serious ethical concerns.
3. Failure to Prioritize Direct Aid:
Instead of directing Californians to independent, non-partisan organizations like the California Fire Foundation, Newsom has chosen a route that undermines public trust and shifts attention to political machinery at a time of urgent need.
4. Broken Promises on Wildfire Preparedness:
Despite claims of increased firefighting resources and forest management, the reality on the ground tells a very different story. Human lives are being lost, Fire hydrants have run dry, homes are being destroyed, family pets/animal lives are being lost, and communities are left questioning where their tax dollars have gone.
