The Issue
We are calling on the Board of Directors of Morris Brown College to immediately prioritize the safety, dignity, and credibility of women and students by addressing serious concerns related to leadership decisions, retaliation against complainants, and failures of accountability. Silence and inaction are no longer acceptable.
And we DEMAND that Dr. Kevin E. James immediately RESIGN as President of Morris Brown College!
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned by recent leadership decisions at Morris Brown College that have raised serious questions about governance, accountability, and the protection of the students, faculty and staff, particularly the women that have made credible complaints.
Unfortunately, despite credible complaints raised by a growing number women & students as well as serious concerns related to conduct, leadership judgment, and workplace safety, the Morris Brown College Board of Directors chose to reinstate Dr. Kevin James, a president who had previously been terminated for undisclosed reasons. Since that reinstatement, women and students have reported experiencing intimidation, retaliation, and efforts to silence those who raised concerns in good faith.
These actions undermine trust in institutional leadership and send a dangerous message: that power is valued over people, and that women who speak up do so at personal risk.
Morris Brown College is a historic institution with a proud legacy rooted in faith, resilience, and community uplift. That legacy cannot be preserved when leadership decisions place the institution, its students, faculty, staff, and alumni in continued jeopardy.
For Morris Brown College to begin restoring trust and stability, decisive action is required.
We therefore call for the immediate resignation of Dr. Kevin James or, failing that, his permanent and immediate dismissal by the Board of Directors. This action is necessary to protect the community, prevent further harm, and allow for a transparent, independent review of the concerns raised without fear of retaliation or interference.
This petition is not about vengeance. It is about responsibility.
It is about recognizing that leadership is a privilege, not a shield from accountability, and that institutions must act when confidence in that leadership has been fundamentally compromised.
Morris Brown College deserves leadership that inspires trust, safeguards its community, and aligns its actions with its stated values. Women who came forward deserve protection, not punishment. And the institution deserves the opportunity to move forward without the weight of unresolved harm.
