The Issue

We, the citizens of Hickman County (32nd District including Perry, Lewis county) and concerned Tennesseans, are calling on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent review of the 32nd District Attorney’s Office. Our justice system must reflect fairness, transparency, and due process — not pressure and delay.

The integrity of the criminal justice system depends on one core principle: the right to due process and a fair trial.

In Hickman, Perry, and Lewis County that make up the 32 district, a troubling pattern has emerged:

A disproportionately high number of cases are resolved through plea deals.
Very few cases ever proceed to trial or result in acquittals.
Many defendants experience significant delays in receiving discovery materials.
These delays and pressures can coerce individuals into accepting plea agreements rather than exercising their constitutional rights.
These concerns are not about being “soft on crime.” They are about demanding justice that is fair, honest, and consistent with the Constitution. Crime should be punished when proven — not simply when someone has been worn down by a broken process.

We, the undersigned, respectfully petition the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to:

Conduct an independent investigation into the policies, practices, and procedures of the 32nd District Attorney’s Office.
Issue a public report of findings so the people of Hickman, Perry, and Lewis County may have clarity and transparency.
Recommend or initiate corrective actions or oversight if systemic problems are found.
Ensure that County defendants receive the timely discovery and speedy trial rights guaranteed under state and federal law.
We further call upon the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office and the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference to review and support this request, ensuring that justice in Hickman County is administered with honor, not pressure.

This petition is about transparency, accountability, and restoring trust in our local justice system. The people deserve nothing less.

“Due process is not optional — it’s the foundation of a fair justice system.”
