Call for an independent audit of the Uganda presidential election results

The presidential elections of Uganda on February 18, 2016 were not free and fair. They were characterised by police brutality and vote rigging. Despite all of those attempts of incumbent candidate Yoweri Museveni to cling to power, it is still known and broadcasted far and wide that Ugandans overwhelmingly voted for Dr. Kizza Besigye to be their next president. Still the Electoral Commission declared Mr. Museveni the winner--results which were completely different from those received at the polling stations, though numerous opposition supporters were prevented from voting altogether through a variety of means. It is in light of these things that we are calling upon U.S President Barack Obama and the International community to refuse to recognise Mr. Museveni as Uganda's elected president until the election results are audited by an independent international commission.
By signing this, you are joining us in saying we shall not be rendered voiceless through such systematic stripping of our rights as citizens of the Republic of Uganda, and thereby setting an example for the rest of the world.
