Petition updateCall for a Royal Commission to Investigate antisemitic acts and violence in CanadaAustralian Royal Commission Interim Report

🚨 Australia has acted. Canada must follow.

Today, Australia released the Interim Report of the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion, following the horrific terrorist attack at Bondi Beach on 14 December that murdered 15 people at a Jewish Hanukkah event.

The Dor Foundation welcomes this serious report and urges immediate action on its recommendations. It exposes critical weaknesses in Australia’s counter-terrorism architecture — a part-time Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, insufficient national exercises, poor information sharing between agencies, and suboptimal Joint Counter-Terrorism Teams — at a time when a terrorist attack was known to be probable.
The report makes clear: Bondi did not occur in a vacuum. It was preceded by escalating antisemitic incidents, hateful rhetoric, and a climate of tolerated hate that left the Jewish community raising alarms for years while daily harassment, vandalism, and intimidation went unaddressed.

Key takeaway: No single agency can see the full threat picture alone. Australia needs a connected, cooperative intelligence and law enforcement system that evolves with the threat — and practical measures like extending high-level security planning to all high-risk Jewish festivals and public events.
This is only the beginning. The full Commission will hear lived experiences from Jewish Australians starting soon, with the final report due December 2026. The Dor Foundation rightly calls on governments to implement urgent recommendations now and for all Australians to support the process and make submissions.

Canada, take note.

We are witnessing a similar surge in antisemitism across our country — in our streets, schools, campuses, workplaces, and communities. Jewish Canadians are facing harassment, intimidation, and fear on a daily basis. We cannot wait for tragedy to force a reckoning here.
It is time for the Government of Canada to establish a full Royal Commission on Antisemitism in Canada — modeled on Australia’s approach — to thoroughly investigate the scope, sources, and systemic nature of this hate, examine failures in response, and deliver concrete, actionable recommendations to protect Jewish Canadians and strengthen social cohesion for all.

Tragedies like Bondi show what happens when warning signs are ignored. Let’s learn the lesson before it’s too late.

Share this if you agree: Canada needs its own independent, powerful Royal Commission on Antisemitism now. Our government must act with the same seriousness Australia has shown.
