Call for a Full Investigation Into Racism and Abuse Across All Navy SEAL Teams
The Issue
A CBS News report has revealed that members of Navy SEAL Team 4 shared racist memes and targeted a Black teammate in a group chat for years. At least 2 Navy SEALs are now facing discipline over racist memes shared on Signal.
One sailor was depicted in degrading imagery, referred to with racial slurs, and later had his SEAL qualifications revoked under questionable circumstances. His credentials were only reinstated after a Naval investigation and intense media scrutiny.
This is not just a one-off. It reflects a deeper cultural problem within the SEALs.
Despite representing one of the most elite units in the military, 95% of Navy SEAL officers are white, and multiple past reports have flagged similar issues of racial exclusion, bias, and abuse.
CBS reports, that as leaders began to look into the complaints, a second sailor — who is White — also complained about bullying by other platoon members.
Now is the time for full accountability.
We call on the Department of Defense, the Navy Inspector General, and Rear Adm. Jamie Sands, head of Naval Special Warfare, to launch a full, independent investigation into racism and abuse across all Navy SEAL teams and commands.
Audit how racial discrimination complaints are handled within the Naval Special Warfare community.
Ensure protection for whistleblowers and swift disciplinary action for any personnel found to have violated anti-discrimination policies.
The strength of our military depends on integrity, unity, and justice — not silence or cover-ups.
