Let's send a message to the Victorian Government. We will not stand for this ridiculous tax on the emergency services levy, which is sending the whole of Victoria to the wall. The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is being dismantled by the very government entrusted to support it. The CFA, built on the values of every community, is integral to our safety and our spirit. By ripping out funds desperately needed by these communities, the government is causing irrevocable harm.
Out of the $600 million raised this year alone by this tax, the CFA will only receive a mere $50 million. This is a gross misallocation of resources and a direct affront to the volunteers and hard-working individuals who risk their lives to keep our communities safe. Farmers, especially, are already facing immense challenges with endless droughts making daily life more difficult. Now, with this injustice, their ability to protect their land and families during fire season is further endangered.
The emergency services levy was intended to bolster support for organizations like the CFA, not cripple them. When the very foundation of our community is threatened, we must stand up. This is more than a call for financial reallocation; it's a plea for justice and accountability.
We owe it to ourselves and to future generations to ensure that the government represents our best interests. By calling for a no confidence vote, we hold our leaders accountable to the promises they have made.
