CPR saves lives!

Do you want your child in a classroom where the teacher has not updated their CPR certification in 10, 15, or even 20 years?

What if your child needed CPR at school?  What are the chances that the teacher will know what to do?

Do you want to take this chance?

CPR certification expires every 2 years!!!!!

Public School Teachers have to be CPR certified to become a teacher.

Public School Teachers NEVER have to renew their CPR certification to stay in the classroom.

Let’s change this!

I am a teacher and a mother of 3 little boys.  I got CPR certified 14 years ago to get my teaching credential. After that time, it never crossed my mind to update it.  I thought once I knew it I would always know it.  I was wrong.

The truth of this hit me when in October I found my son facedown, blue, cold and unresponsive. I had forgotten almost everything I had learned about CPR since it had been 14 years and I did not know what to do. A neighbor who did know CPR was able to save him.

What about the students I am in contact with 6-8 hours a day in the classroom? What if one of them needed CPR? Would I remember what to do to save them?

What if my other son needed CPR in his 2nd grade class? What are the chances his teacher was up to date with their certification? Would she be able to help him if he needed it before the paramedics or nurse could come?

What about all the other students and teachers across the state? How many teachers would not know what to do because their CPR certification was so out of date?

Not renewing my CPR certification was not from lack of caring about the well fair of my students. Doing so, like many other things in life, never crossed my mind…….unless I was required to do it.

So why wasn’t I required to renew it? Teachers are required every few years to renew their credential in order to stay in the classroom.  Why is updating their CPR certification not a part of this requirement?

For Every minute that an AED is unavailable, the victim has a 10% less chance of survival. Once the heart stops beating, brain death occurs in 4 to 6 minutes. Performing CPR provides oxygen to the brain and other vital organs to give the victim the best chance of full recovery after EMS takes over. If CPR is given within the first four minutes of a cardiac arrest, the chances of survival double.

Teachers are only required to get CPR certification once and never renew it. Being current with CPR certification saves lives..........the lives of our children.
