Among youth, e-cigarette use is increasing at alarming rates, leading youth to a life of nicotine addiction. More than a quarter million youth who had never smoke cigarettes before smoked e-cigarettes in 2013.

Flavored tobacco products are the onramp for youth tobacco use. Flavors like cotton candy, cherry, mint, and gummy bear are familiar and attractive to youth throughout California.  80% of all teen smokers started with some kind of flavored tobacco product, and research shows that many teens won't want e-cigarettes if it's not flavored. In a study conducted in Texas schools, they found that among youth who had used e-cigarettes in the past 30 days, 84% of youth said they would not use non-flavored e-cigarettes.  The U.S. Surgeon General has also noted that nearly 9 in 10 smokers started smoking during childhood. It is thus important that we combat the causes of initiation for tobacco use.

Many California cities, including San Francisco have passed laws to stop flavored tobacco in retail stores in their cities, but tobacco companies still target youth by selling these candy-like tobacco products online. With today's technological advancements, making online purchases is easier than ever.

Near California, Washington state and Arizona have already passed legislation to stop the online sale of many or even all tobacco products. Breathe California's Project E-NUFF is working to protect youth in California by directing focus towards the neglectful online sale policies that make it easy for youth to purchase flavored tobacco products online.

Please add your voice to say that you would like the state legislature to protect youth by taking action to stop the online sale of flavored tobacco!

[If you represent an organization, to use this form as an "endorsement" of Breathe California's Project E-NUFF's policy idea to stop the online sale of flavored tobacco, please add the name of the organization after your name.]
