Don't close Bike Trail access to Old Sacramento

The current draft of the Old Sacramento State Historic Park General Plan calls for closure of the bike path at I street, eliminating the single most popular way to exit the bike trail to Old Sacramento and the Downtown area. Please add your signature to oppose this plan and support repairs to the existing bike path that will improve access to Old Sacramento and Downtown destinations for pedestrians and cyclists.

Text on page 4-11 of the Preliminary Old Sacramento State Historic Park - General Plan states that “I Street would be abandoned as a physical bike trail/railroad crossing and trail traffic would be routed to other locations”

This closure would adversely affect a large number of current users and should only be implemented AFTER the existing bike path from the I Street underpass to J street is improved to accommodate pedestrian and bike traffic similar to the Promenade portion south of Tower Bridge, including construction of a safe and convenient crossing for both pedestrians and cyclists over the train tracks at J Street into Old Sacramento.
