SAVE THE BEES!!!

SAVE THE BEES!!!
The Issue
Adriana Maciel, Jackie Nicolas
The bee colonies are in serious danger. There are many reasons contributing to their population loss, including pesticides, habitat loss, climate change and more however as stated by greenpeace humans are responsible for two of the major causes being pesticides and habitat loss. Bees are important to our whole ecosystem, being that they are pollinators. They pollinate our fruits and vegetables flowers and all our living plants, 90% of the WORLD'S nutrition is pollinated by BEES. Without them we too are at risk. The US National Agricultural Statistics show the bee colony decline from 6 billion hives in 1974, to 2.4 million hives in 2008. as the years keep going there is a a further decline in hives endangering the bee population further.
Pesticides and habitat loss have been the two major causes of this decline in bee population. Experts have found more than 150 chemical residues in bee pollen. Some including nicotine-based clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam are three pesticides posing a great threat to bees. Chemical companies such as Bayer, Syngenta, BASF, Dow, DuPont and Monsanto choose to avoid this problem as they profit off of this. Moreover wild bee habitat shrinks every year as industries destroy their habit into mono-culture fars, filled with pesticides.
California is a huge economic force in the world thanks to agriculture. We need to do something to ensure the bees protection. They are a necessity in our environment and to us humans. To help them we must ban these pesticides that are harming them, and fight to preserve their habitat. Help us save the bees, and ensure their protection, sign this petition to the California State Department of Food and Agriculture so that this important matter gets heard and so that something is done.
