California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Tour in Summer 2026

The Issue

Making music together is a bonding experience unlike any other for the members of the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO). Spending summer 2026 on tour would not only strengthen these bonds, but also provide an unforgettable experience for our young musicians.

The youth orchestra offers a critical place of inspiration and growth for young musicians. Time and again, research underscores the profound impact that active participation in music can have on a young person’s life, enhancing social skills, collaboration, and emotional intelligence (National Association for Music Education, 2018). To deny the CPYO the chance to go on tour is to risk dampening the creative spark in these young musicians.

Yet, this is not just about personal growth or individual experiences – supporting youth orchestras to tour promotes cultural exchange and the enrichment of musical landscapes around the world. Such tours have been proven to increase understanding and appreciation of different cultures (The Association of British Orchestras, 2020).

Therefore, we are calling on the relevant decision makers to plan for and commit to a tour by the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra during the summer of 2026. The benefits reach beyond the individuals involved, positively influencing community spirit, cultural awareness, and the future of music itself. Please sign this petition to show your support for our young musicians' summer tour.
