Puppy mills are a cruel industry. The dire conditions that dogs are kept in is appalling; profit comes first and not the welfare of the dogs in their 'care'. Even worse is the pet shop industry that supports this cruel practice. Barkworks are well known for selling puppies from these evil breeders. Not only do they support and fund this trade, but the treatment of the puppies they sell is diabolical. I was absolutely horrified to see puppies at Barkworks, Cerritos, California kept in such inhumane conditions. These poor little souls can barely breathe in the glass kennels they are kept in and left without adequate access to water. In addition to this, people have reported that many dogs' cages have bloody faeces in them and the shop assistants show little concern when confronted about this. Despite attempts by locals, other petitions and Facebook pages to help these puppies, Long Beach Animal Welfare have deemed these conditions as 'okay' This is unacceptable. Barkworks have come under scrutiny countless times; they have been taken to court by the Animal Defence League Fund (ADLF) and have had other branches shut down. These puppies are clearly suffering and, I for one, want action to get them removed, vet checked and taken to safety. I believe that a pet shop that shows such little regard for life has no right to be in business and should be shut down immediately. Please join me in telling Barkworks and Cerritos animal control that this is not acceptable and will NOT be tolerated!
