Release incarcerated people who have served 85% of their sentence in California

The Issue

Under current conditions, the prison population would be devastated by a COVID-19 outbreak and it would spread to the general public. California prisons are overcrowded and the state of California doesn't have the resources to ensure that prison staff are not spreading the illness to those incarcerated. Even with low testing rates (only 302 people behind bars have been tested), 47 staff members and 13 caged people in the California prison system have tested positive as of April 4th.

California government promised to release 3,500 people within the next several weeks (that's only an average of 100 people per prison). However, this is just an attempt to convince the public that something will be done when it will have little effect - all that are set for early release within the next few weeks are eligible for release within 60 days anyway. That's not much of an early release!

Sign now and urge California to release those that have already served 85% or more of their sentence to include those in minimum security facilities not just traditional prisons. People in prison camps have all been classified as non-violent by CDCR's rigorous hearing system (regardless of their offense) and should not be overlooked in this initiative. Tell California government that the public wants to see real action. Inmates deserve human rights and an outbreak would effect much more than just the prison population when prison staff inevitably spread it to the general public. Please show your support.
