Give Stacey A Second Chance #2ndchance4stacey

The Issue

In 2002 I was arrested for felony murder and sentenced to life without parole. For the past 14 years I have experienced numerous changes in my mental, emotional, and spiritual life. The aspects of my personal character have transformed completely and I have grown from a selfish child into a compassionate woman.
It took a few years of living in denial and self pity before waking up to my painful reality. My reality was that I was in prison serving an LWOP sentence and in desperate need to understand what brought me to this situation. Gradually I faced all of the areas in my life that I failed in. These areas included my children, family, and community. So, I knew that I had to change for the better and delve into the complete opposite path I was on that led me to prison.
The first step in my change was carefully dissecting every part of my life. Looking back on every choice I have made. I made it my goal to understand what led me to make the decisions I have chosen in the past. I have worked really hard towards my change and my healing. My change has had a few key elements. The elements include O.M.C.P. training, facilitating A.W.A.R.E., Comfort Care work, and attending Karios.
O.M.C.P. is the Offender Mentor Certification Program. This program has allowed me to undergo substance abuse treatment, understand family dynamics, anger, PTSD, and address self-esteem. This program trains me to become a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor. O.M.C.P. allows me to be an example to the other inmates in the institution and gives me a likely job in the community I would be released to.
A.W.A.R.E. is Accountability workshop and Restorative Education. I have taken this group numerous times and have become a facilitator for this class. A.W.A.R.E. has given me the ability to give back, take responsibility, and guide others into understanding how they have impacted their communities.
Comfort Care is a Hospice/Palliative volunteer program here within the institution. This program insures that no one dies alone and someone, such as myself, can be by the dying's side. I hold their hands, encourage, and pray with them in their last moments of life.
Kairos is a spiritual journey that guides inmates into a deeper spiritual level. Kairos has allowed me to forgive myself and others. It has also allowed me to seek a purposeful path in life, so that I can show genuine compassion to others. As a   Kairos member, I encourage others to walk the walk and try to lead them to a spiritual and purposeful path.
I have also earned a college degree in American Studies and Social & Behavioral Sciences. I have served in leadership positions in organizations and taken advantage of the vocational training available. All of these certificates say nothing compared to my genuine life change I have experienced. I truly feel passionate about being a part of society again and would like a second chance at life. If you support the idea of rehabilitation, change, and re-entry into society. If you believe in forgiveness, mercy and second chances. If you believe that the purpose of prison is not for punishment but for restorative justice, please support my second chance.
