End the ban on suction dredging for gold in California.

We the signers of this petition, request the immediate lifting of the 2009 ban on small scale motorized suction dredging in the lakes, rivers and streams of the state of California. (Fish & G. Code, § 5653.1, subd. (b).)
We understand that the state may wish to place reasonable restrictions on such activities, but we find a complete ban unacceptable.
We call upon the California legislature to re-examine the suction dredging issue and allow small scale gold dredging to resume.
Small scale motorized suction dredging is safe and provides income for California's independent miners. It also stimulates equipment sales, creates manufacturing jobs, and generates tourism revenue for rural communities.
