Many people adore the Hollywood sign. It has been a landmark in California for decades. However, many people do not know the dark history behind it. 

In 1923 a white male by the name of Harry Chandelor built the Hollywood sign as an advertisement for his segregated housing development project. The sign originally said Hollywoodland. During the great depression the real estate company went under and the sign was neglected. 

In 1949 the racist Hollywood sign was going to be removed, but the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce stepped in and repaired it.

In the 1970's the sign was finally going to be trashed, but Hugh Hefner stepped in. A white male who built an empire on objectifying women, raised $28,000 to replace the sign in 1978. 

The Hollywood sign has a long history of racism and sexism. Hollywood itself also lacks diversity in favor of white entertainers. It is 2018 and it is time that this changed. We need to get rid of the Hollywood sign and the racism that it glorifies. We can not stand for the white patriarchy any longer.
