Thank you for your ongoing support! ------------------- Important information for folks interested in supporting CAUSE and community organizing vs the P3 (Parasitic, Predatory, and Poisonous) power plant in Oxnard EVIDENTIARY HEARINGS before the California Energy Commission will take place at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard, CA 93030 (Wheelchair Accessible and Spanish/English translation provided) TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2017, beginning at 9:30 A.M., with public comment period beginning at 5:30 P.M.; WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2017, beginning at 9:30 A.M., with public comment period beginning at 5:30 P.M.; and may be extended to: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9 and FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2017, same schedule. The public comment period at 5:30 pm at the end of each day is probably the most critical time for people to come and show their solidarity with CAUSE and community members and public opposition to the power plants. (Of course, it is useful for people to be present during the testimony as well, if your time permits.) Details on the agenda for each day are not yet available (TBA after Feb 1), but we believe that the issue of Environmental Justice will be presented and discussed on the first day, Tuesday, Feb 7. Please remember that CAUSE and community folks have been fighting this fight for almost 3 years now, with a specific focus on the environmental racism suffered by the people of Oxnard who “live, work and play” in the area of the existing and the proposed plants. We want to keep the message focused on Environmental Justice! We are asking people to show up for a Rally @ 5 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in front of Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard, CA 93030 so you can be updated on the issues and meet other members of the community. Please "do your homework" beforehand (see below) to understand the background issues and the organizing that has been done so far and be prepared, if you wish, to make a 3 minute statement in opposition to the plant during Public comment period, beginning @ 5:30 pm on either Feb 7 or 8. Even if you don’t wish to make a comment, you are encouraged to stand in solidarity with CAUSE and community members in opposition to the plant. At the hearings, please be respectful, observe and follow the lead of CAUSE organizers for further action beyond public comment. CAUSE organizers can be contacted at emails below: raul@causenow.org ocil@causenow.org Please Note that the CEC has stated: “If, prior to, or during the Evidentiary Hearing circumstances make it impracticable to hold the event at the above location, the Committee may change the location of the Evidentiary Hearing to the Energy Commission’s Offices in Sacramento.” We are arguing against any such last minute change of venue because it would not allow for full public participation by the community, which is our right! We believe that they have made this statement to try to prevent further community organizing efforts like the action CAUSE staged to shut down the January 10, 2017 hearing.
