Stop Hunting on Morro Bay and Estero Bay
The Issue
We live on and around what is known as Morro Bay or Estero Bay, or simply just the Bay. We want ALL hunting on the Bay to stop forever.
The Bay is enjoyed by thousands of kayakers, stand-up paddle boarders, birders, etc. every day. There are also many homes along the Bay and on the surrounding streets. The gunfire is heard at the crack of dawn and continues all day until sunset. The hunters leave litter and shotgun shells everywhere. This is not our way of life here. The hunting is a dangerous, archaic practice that no longer fits with the profile of our community. The vast majority of these hunters are not the ones living here.
Furthermore, this Bay is supposedly a bird sanctuary, and we are lucky enough to be a stop along the migration path for many species of birds. This includes Brant geese who arrive to our Bay extremely tired and hungry from their journey. They travel with their mate and they mate for life. We want these birds to feel safe here, so we can all enjoy these beautiful creatures. We do not want to see them shot at; often struggling in the water until the hunter is finally able to put it out of its misery. This is especially true during our Winter Bird Festival.
The hunting lowers our property values and greatly upsets the quality of life for the people who actually live on and around the Bay . It affects us, our children, and our animals, and we want it to stop.
Hunting should no longer be allowed in this community, and we want it to stop FOREVER.
