CHSPE Spring 2021 for General Public

The Issue

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the California High School Proficiency Examination has been greatly impacted by the cancellation of testing opportunities. This has hindered the plan of many high school students in California that were planning on taking this exam.

The CHSPE allows for sophomore, junior, and senior high school students to attend college early, work full-time, and many other options. Normally the test is administered 3 times a year, however the test was cancelled both for Spring 2020 and Fall 2020. Now, the CHSPE office announced they are hosting a Spring 2021 exam, but the exam will only be open to students that registered to take the exam in 2020, and not to the general public.

Students generally take the exam in their second semester of 10th grade, which is one of the testing eligibility requirements, which means that many of them weren't even eligible to register last year.

Since the California Department of Education and the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is able and capable of organizing a testing session for Spring 2021, it should NOT be limited to a certain group of people, but should be open to everyone that wants to take it.
