Last month, The Satanic Temple's Grey Faction staged a protest outside San Francisco’s Parc 55 hotel in response to a conference of the International Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation (ISSTD) that was being held within. Excellent coverage of the protest can be read here: http://religiondispatches.org/satanic-temple-protests-pseudoscientific-therapies-for-satanic-abuse-and-witchcraft/ For those who aren't aware, the ISSTD presents itself as “an international, non-profit, professional association organized to develop and promote comprehensive, clinically effective and empirically based resources and responses to trauma and dissociation and to address its relevance to other theoretical constructs.” However, as Grey Faction points out, the ISSTD propagates debunked theories of Multiple Personality Disorder, Satanic Ritual Abuse, and Government Mind-Control Conspiracy theories. Several months ago, Grey Faction posted a petition on Change.org calling for an investigation into the licensing status of an ISSTD Psychologist named Ellen Lacter who we suspect helped cultivate the delusions that led a woman in NY to kill her 8-year old child. We are going to do a Freedom Of Information Act documents request related to any deliberations the agency may have done upon our petition, and then we will consider our next course of action from there.
