California Teacher Credential Program

California Teacher Credential Program
The Issue
For student teachers in California and in other states, the impact of schools closing is creating uncertainty in regards to completing the requirements needed to attain a preliminary teaching credential. Requirements such as time in the classroom, alternate observations in two classes above our assigned grade level, and the CALTPA submission deadlines are held at a standstill. At the moment, there is no accommodations or reassurance that this will not impact our graduation and credential in the wake of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). We understand that the Universities are not directly in charge of credential requirements as mandated by the State of California. Rather we ask the California Commission on Teaching Credentials to make the necessary accommodations, deadline extensions, and work with Universities across the state to ensure our credential can still be attained due to these unforeseen circumstances. We ask that these accommodations, extensions, and/or decisions work for allowing us to complete what is necessary and submit to the state of California to allow us our credential. As future educators in California, we ask for support during this time and compassion for the money, time, and effort we put forth in helping every student reach their full potential. Overall, we ask for the same compassion and dedication during this time. Please consider extending CALTPA requirements and submission deadlines with Universities because we are also impacted students in this pandemic.
