Petition to California Coastal Commission: Take action to preserve the Del Mar Bluffs

The Issue

As a primary protector of our natural environment along our coastlines, we ask that the California Coastal Commission help us protect the bluff along the Del Mar cliffs from irreversible damage from planned reinforcement along the train tracks due to continued bluff erosion.  The train tracks must be moved soon, so we ask that the Commission obtain a firm commitment from SANDAG and NCTD on relocation within a defined time frame, as well as ensure that alteration of the bluff be the minimum needed to ensure safety until relocation.  And we also ask the Commission to reject NCTD's proposed fencing plans and avoid further damage by persuading the North County Transit District to plan this move of the tracks inland as soon as possible, with a firm deadline for accomplishing this in the next several years.  At the same time, we are asking that the Commission request that NCTD not do expansive damage to the bluff by requiring that any drilling and fencing imposed on the Bluffs be limited and targeted to those areas near the coast crossing, where the historical 10-year data shows the train accidents occur.  Here is the link to both the petition summary and the 14 page petition: https://delmarbluff.com/one-page-summary-of-citizens-petition/
